Repo Dogs

I used to have a car lot in a very scary area. There was lots of crime, but we were very secure. We had a shop on one end of the property and a house on the other end with a garage, turned into an office, in the middle. The whole property had a wrought iron ten foot high fence around it on the street side and cinder block walls, six feet tall that covered all the back side of the property.

And a couple of rottweilers. They actually stayed in the back yard of the house but they could get up to the six foot block wall that was right next to the front door of our office. Behind the wall where the dogs lived was a large pile of bricks that were not visible from the office side, and the dogs could climb up the bricks and look over the top of the wall. And they were very attentive.

If we had a customer wanting to buy a car, we would walk them into the office and the dogs would always pop their heads over the wall to say hi. The customers were always surprised how “tall” our guard dogs were.

At the end of every deal, (we were a buy-here-pay-here lot, so we financed most in-house), we would show the customer a picture of the dogs that we had blown up and then we wrote in big red letters, “Repo Dogs” on their copy of the AS-IS Agreement. All very official like.

“That’s for when you are late on your payments.” That was our standard line when all the paperwork was done and the money was in our hands. Not bad, having seven foot rottweilers to secure our deal.
